Outdoor Musical Instruments
Every outdoor musical instrument made by Jamie Linwood is a hand-made, bespoke, creation. He constructs durable musical instruments for schools, playgrounds, parks and sensory gardens using his expert knowledge of African and Indonesian instrument making traditions.

He has made xylophones, marimbas and specially designed instruments for professional musicians: Evelyn Glennie, Michael Barker, Risenga Makondo and Rango. The world music magazine Songlines wrote an article about his faithful recreation of a traditional

Recently he was commissioned to make a set of huge marimba bars (after Harry Partch, the composer/instrument maker) with double octave overtone tuning for Max de Wardener.
He has also worked in collaboration with the Oily Cart Theatre Company to design and make instruments for interactive performances for children and young people with complex disabilities. His academic knowledge of acoustics and instrument construction enable him to design and make musical instruments of the highest callibre.

For the past two years he has been invited to appear at the WOMAD Music Festival where he runs a series of marimba and xylophone making workshops, along with having outdoor instruments set up throughout the festival for people to play.
